Flatiron Flyers season end and Steamboat SR

Yesterday was the last training ride of the season for the Flatiron Flyers junior cycling team.  In the morning, I was slightly concerned about my ability to pedal up to Jamestown in the afternoon, feeling quite a bit of fatigue in my legs from the racing on Saturday and big-ring climbing on Sunday.  Luckily, my legs came around and I was OK to ride up Lefthand Canyon by 5:00pm.  With school having started up again, there were fewer riders who showed up compared to some of the big early-season rides, but we had a good group that drove the pace all the way up to Jamestown.  The riders and parents who showed up for the last day were treated to a pizza dinner at Foothills Community Park, complete with trivia and some cool gear give-aways.

After the ride, I signed up for a couple of events that are coming up in the next week and a half.  The first is the Steamboat Stage Race, a four-day event in Steamboat Springs, CO.  Racers will contend with a time trial on Friday, a hilly circuit race on Saturday, a road race on Sunday, and then a criterium on Monday.  I had a very good time at this event last year and am looking forward to the 2nd year's edition.  The following weekend, I will make my way to Denver for the Tactical Strength Challenge to be held at Front Range Crossfit on Saturday the 11th and then head to Colorado Springs for a cycling camp at the Olympic Training Center that starts on Sunday.

In the interest of not just posting heaps of text to the blog, I will make an effort to include some kind of interesting picture with each post.  The image below is one I took in Deer Trail, Colorado, near the start of the road race this past Saturday the 28th.  Apparently, the owner of the garage does not want to get anyone's hopes up about his hospitality.

First Post!

After a long weekend of racing, course marshaling, training, driving around CO, and picking up a few groceries, I decided to start a blog.  That makes sense, right?

On Saturday I picked up Kevin and Sean, drove to Deer Trail, CO and raced in the Summer's End road race.  Kevin took 3rd in the Pro/1/2/3 field while Sean took 2nd in the 4's.  After a half-hearted effort to conserve energy, I didn't quite have the legs to follow the winning move, so ended up in 10th place in the P/1/2/3 field.  After returning home, I scarfed down some leftovers from this past week, loaded up the car again, and then headed to Colorado Springs to avoid an obscenely early wake-up time Sunday morning.

This morning I marshaled one of the intersections visited by the 2010 Assault on the Peak bicycle event where riders climbed from Manitou Springs to the summit of Pikes Peak.  Afterwards, I joined my coach for lunch in Colorado Springs and then hit the road to head home.

Below is a picture taken last weekend after Kimberly and Darian's wedding in Colorado Springs.
